Macomb Center for the Performing Arts. The Macomb Center is home to several fine show choir programs for students in middle school, high school and college. Through participation in the Macomb Center's Show Choir programs, students learn the art of musical theater. A combination of singing, acting and choreographed movement combined to create the necessary skill set for a Broadway- style performance. Opportunities abound for singers to not only perform at numerous functions, but to learn the craft from professional vocal clinicians and choreographers.

The Macombers have grown in emphasis and stature. They are Michigan's oldest college show choir, and although constantly changing their musical selections and personnel, continue to receive rave reviews. The group performs dozens of shows a year throughout the Detroit area and beyond. All members are full- time scholarship students at Macomb Community College. They have appeared with professional performers such as The Chieftains, Neil Sedaka, Judy Collins, Marvin Hamlisch and Tom Jones. The Macombers have performed for everyone from American Presidents and major corporations to local school children.

Magic Company. Magic Company is a show choir program for gifted and talented high school students. Auditions are held during the month of August. Rehearsals are held on weekends throughout the fall semester. Spain. Boychoir Experience provides an opportunity for boys in grades 1 – 5 to participate in the Cincinnati Boychoir without an audition. They learn basic musical concepts through singing, movement, games, and a variety of other activities. Regular music theory lessons (taught during scheduled rehearsal times) enhance the teaching of basic vocal and musicianship skills. Vocal instruction emphasizes the ability to access their head voice, proper breathing technique, phonation/placement, and diction. Boys will be invited to audition for the Advanced Division after completing at least one year in the Intermediate Division. Boys must have completed Book I in the theory curriculum and demonstrate success in the four areas for advancement: Vocal Technique, Behavior/Citizenship, Attendance and Sightsinging/Music Theory.
Boys will continue their music theory studies as well as performing throughout the city, region and world at the highest musical level. All rehearsals are structured to fit multiple learning styles and are specifically “boy- friendly”, including opportunities for them to sing together, develop choral “teamwork” skills, play music games, and become contributing citizens within the Cincinnati Boychoir family. All boys participate in a program of mentorship (in which returning boys serve as “big brothers” to new boys) and are evaluated periodically so the staff can monitor each boy’s progress. Concert Choir. Open to: any boy in grade 4 and up with an unchanged voice who has successfully completed at least one year in the Intermediate Division and has been invited to audition for the Concert Choir.
Concert Choir serves as the Cincinnati Boychoir’s main performing ensemble. The Concert Choir performs at most of the concerts located within the city limits of Cincinnati, including an annual major work with orchestra, and periodic appearances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, May Festival, and the Cincinnati Opera, among others. Specific music theory topics include sight- reading of increasingly complex rhythms and meters, diatonic scales and key signatures, and basic interval identification. Vocal instruction continues to emphasize respiration (particularly as the boy matures physically), phonation/placement, and diction.
All singers learn the International Phonetic Alphabet in order to manage proper diction in foreign languages. Rehearsals: Mondays, 6: 3. Aronoff Center for the Arts.
Cost: $3. 25 per semester (September & January)Tour Choir. Open to: any boy within the Concert Choir who is invited to audition, based on criteria stated above. The Tour Choir is an SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) chamber choir within the Concert Choir, and is the Cincinnati Boychoir’s premiere performing ensemble. The Tour Choir performs approximately 3. Greater Cincinnati area and undertakes an annual performance tour. Boys who wish to sing in the Tour Choir must show the highest level of dedication to their music- making, as well as maturity and leadership within choral rehearsals and performances. Criteria for joining the Tour Choir include: boy’s score on the Tour Choir entrance test, vocal and physical maturity, leadership capability, and the discretion of the director.
Participation in the Tour Choir requires a great deal of time and commitment both from the boy and from his family as the ensemble works professionally as a contracted choir when called upon. Boys continue to hone their music theory skills in the Tour Choir, learning non- diatonic scales, interval naming, and basic triadic harmony.
Vocally, the boys are encouraged to continue to learn healthy singing; often, the boy’s voice will begin to change during his Tour Choir tenure, and individual instruction may be necessary to aid him through the transition. A note on changed voices: boys who are accepted into the Tour Choir whose voices change may remain in the ensemble singing in their new range. Boys whose voices change prior to their acceptance into the Tour Choir may audition for the Tour Choir, or may sing in the MAN Choir or Beaux Ties. Rehearsals: Soprano & Alto Mondays 6: 3.

Director: Michael Pekel. The Beaux Ties is a changed- voice ensemble that sings more contemporary repertoire, including college a cappella songs, traditional barbershop, and much more.
Any boy with a changed or changing voice is invited to audition and participate in any one of the three Beaux Ties sessions (or trimesters) each season. In order to accommodate the busy schedules of our young men, Beaux Ties members only commit to one trimester at a time. Rehearsals: Wednesdays 6: 3.
